This was taken in Grand Cayman on Seven Mile Beach back in 2020 at sunset. A massive blanket of cloud stretched across the horizon and far behind me. Just as the sun dipped beneath it, the sky was set ablaze. The fiery colors deepened as it crept lower and lower. I took my shot, thankful to have been there to experience the most impressive sunset I’d ever seen.

This was taken in Cayman Brac in 2021 along the Lighthouse Footpath, a trail that goes along the bluff. The sun was nearing the horizon and, as I stood overlooking the ocean, I found what I was looking for: along the cliff’s edge, in their nests, sat the booby birds. This one booby looked very comfortable and at peace next to her mate whose tail you can see to her left, probably tending to the nest. Her calm demeanor framed by ironshore, foliage and a deep blue sea, compelled me to capture the moment.

This photo was taken on Cayman Brac in 2021 from Long Beach. It was a cloudy and gloomy day. The water was choppy and the palm trees up on the bluff swayed in the wind. The rock face stood 140 feet tall, its commanding presence the star of the show, demanding a photo. I decided to make this photo black and white, focusing on soft blacks, as it eliminated distractions. The bluff stands alone in timeless, silent defiance. Fun Fact: The little rock in the ocean to the left of the bluff is fondly referred to as “Little Cayman Brac.”

On this day, it was dark and quiet, but not perfectly calm, as if something stirred beneath. The soft blacks and whites bring out the beauty in the simplicity of watching ripples on the surface of dark water.

I took this in Grand Cayman in 2020 at an abandoned golf course that had become more populated by wildlife than humans during Covid. Quarantine restrictions had been lifted, which meant a long walk outside appreciating nature. The number of birds that had taken up residence in the various ponds along my path wasn’t necessarily surprising given the circumstances, but I was still caught off guard in the best way. I clocked a tern flying soaring overhead and quickly snapped a photo. It’s such a simple shot, but for me, it carries a strong feeling of solitude and freedom. It reflected a feeling I think many people shared at that time, and maybe still do - navigating an overwhelming and uncertain world alone, but persisting with hope.
